Infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is an acute problem in many countries with a significant increase in the occurrence of rifampicin (RIF) antibiotic resistance, the main first line treatment. Diagnosis using conventional microscopy and follow up culture is often slow, taking up to 42 days to obtain a result. Poor or delayed diagnosis and inappropriate use of antibiotics is further promoting the increase of antibiotic resistance.

Genedrive® MTB/RIF ID Kit provides rapid detection of both MTB and rifampicin resistance from human sputum within 75 minutes. In an evaluation study of 300 samples, Genedrive® MTB/RIF demonstrated a sensitivity and specificity of 93% and 96% for smear-positive/culture-positive and smear-negative/culture-negative specimens, respectively.
